How to Store Cannabis So It Stays Good

Four things degrade cannabis

Heat, light, oxygen, and the wrong humidity. Get those under control and flower stays pleasant for months. Ignore them and a great eighth turns harsh in a couple of weeks.

Flower

Store in an airtight glass jar, somewhere cool and dark — a cupboard, not a windowsill, and not the refrigerator, where condensation causes problems.

Target 58–62% relative humidity. Two-way humidity packs are inexpensive and do the job. Below about 50% the material crumbles and the smoke gets sharp; above 65% you risk mold.

Grinding releases terpenes, so grind only what you are about to use.

Pre-rolls

Same rules, but the clock runs faster. Keep pre-rolls in their tube or a sealed jar with a humidity pack, and buy in smaller quantities if you smoke them slowly.

Vape carts

Store carts upright, at room temperature, away from sunlight. Upright keeps the oil against the intake and reduces leaking and clogs. Cold thickens the oil — if a cart has been in a cold car, let it warm in your hand before drawing.

Concentrates

Cool and sealed. Live resin and rosin are the most fragile things in the store; refrigerate rosin in a sealed container and let it come to room temperature before opening so moisture does not condense onto it. Edibles

Follow the package. Chocolate needs cool and dark; gummies dislike heat and will fuse in a hot car. Most edibles carry a real expiration date — check it.

Safety at home

Keep everything in original child-resistant packaging, stored up high or locked, and away from pets. Never decant cannabis products into unlabeled food containers. Oklahoma patients are responsible for keeping their medicine secured.
