The most potent case in the store

Concentrates run from roughly 60% to over 90% THC. That potency is the appeal and also the reason to approach the category carefully. A single small dab can be equivalent to several bowls of flower.

Solvent vs solventless

Solvent-based extracts use butane, propane, or CO2 to strip cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant, then purge the solvent off. Shatter, badder, sauce, and most diamonds are made this way. Oklahoma requires residual-solvent testing, so a compliant product has been checked.

Solventless extracts use only ice water, heat, and pressure. Bubble hash and rosin fall here. They cost more because the yield is lower and the input material has to be excellent.

Fresh-frozen vs cured

"Live" on a label means the plant was frozen immediately at harvest instead of dried and cured. That preserves far more of the volatile terpenes, which is why live resin and live rosin taste so much closer to the growing plant.

Textures, decoded

• Shatter — glassy and brittle. Stable, easy to store, usually cheaper.
• Badder / budder — whipped, cake-frosting texture. Easy to handle.
• Sugar / sauce — wet and crystalline. Typically high in terpenes.
• Diamonds — crystallized THCA, often sold in a terpene sauce. Extremely potent.
• Rosin — solventless, ranges from sappy to badder-like. The premium end.
• Hash and bubble hash — traditional solventless, increasingly popular pressed into infused pre-rolls.

Starting out

Use a dose the size of a grain of rice. Lower temperatures — roughly 500°F and below on a dab rig or an e-rig — preserve flavor and are gentler. Wait several minutes before going again.

Storage
